Summary

A papillary fibroelastoma, causing amaurosis fugax and paresis of the right arm, was detected by echocardiography as a free floating mass in the left-ventricular outflow tract. Based on the exaet localization of the tumor by intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography the initial indication for ventriculotomy was disregarded and an atraumatic transvalvular approach was chosen.

Zusammenfassung

Bei einer 57jährigen Patientin mit einem papillären Fibroelastom, das eine Amaurosis fugax und eine Parese des rechten Armes verursacht hatte, wurde durch die Echokardiographie der flottierende Tumor im Iinksventrikulären Ausflußtrakt erkannt. Intraoperativ konnte durch den Einsatz der transösophagealen Echokardiographie ein atraumatischer transaortaler Zugangsweg gewählt werden.
