Significance
A polymer-supported palladium nanocatalyst was developed. Thus, the palladium nanoparticles were generated in a solution of Pd(PPh3)4, styrene, and divinylbenzene under oxygen, and subsequently encapsulated via polymerization with AIBN. The resulting polymeric composite was filtered and rinsed with THF to provide the polymer-supported palladium nanoparticles 1. The hydrogenation of trans-stilbene was carried out in the presence of the complex 1 to give the 1,2-diphenylethane in quantitative yield. This catalyst was recovered by simple filtration and reused 16 times without any loss of catalytic activity.
