Significance
There are few chain-growth polymerizations that directly place electronic elements into the backbone. This polymerization can be conducted under radical conditions and the authors have skillfully shown molecular-weight control with polydispersity indexes ranging from 1.14-1.66 using what is known as a RAFT (reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer) polymerization. The polymers are fluorescent and have potential applications in emerging electronic polymer technologies.
