Free tissue transfer (FTT) has revolutionized standard approaches to autologous breast reconstruction by expanding the latitude of flap design, providing for improved perfusion of the autologous tissues, and minimizing donor site morbidity. Not infrequently, the requirements for breast reconstruction exceed the available abdominal tissue that can be transported reliably on one vascular pedicle. In these cases, alternative methods for reconstruction must be considered. One such method is the use of two separate free flaps from the lower abdominal wall. In this study, the authors presented their experience with the use of bilateral lower abdominal free flaps for unilateral breast reconstruction.
