This retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the results of the most successful techniques for treating infantile tibial nonunion. Twenty-five cases were treated by contralateral vascularized fibular grafting; 23 of them healed well. In the bone carriage group, 13 cases were available for analysis; all healed primarily, but 4 cases refractured and revision of the procedure was necessary. A score system was devised to compare the economic burden of both procedures.

This study reported on the factors that would help to choose a specific procedure for a specific patient, most likely to be successful and with the least economic burden, which is an important issue in developing countries.
