Resection of the Inferior Tuberosity of the Calcaneous Associated with Microsurgical Reconstruction in Cutaneous Losses of the Weight-Bearing Area of the Foot
Patients with cutaneous losses in the weight-bearing area of the foot usually have problems after microsurgical reconstruction. After coverage with microsurgical or skin flaps, ulcerations are frequent. This is caused by a lack of sensibility in the transplanted tissue. The author has treated seven patients with this problem, and all of them experienced difficulties following microsurgical reconstruction. After detailed observation, the solution chosen was resection of the inferior tuberosity of the calcaneous, leaving the inferior surface plane. After this procedure, there was a significant reduction in the incidence of ulceration, improving the patients' ability to walk.
