Significance

Sibutramine is an anorexic agent. The key step in its synthesis is an asymmetric reduction of the N-sulfinylketimine D derived from the readilly available N-tosyl-1,2,3-oxathiazolidine-2-oxide (C) which can be reconstituted from its hydrolysis product F.
