Significance
The α-hydroxy acid motif is a component in many different pharmaceutically useful compounds. Consequently, new methods of synthesis constitute an important challenge. In the present paper the authors use their Cn-TunePhos ligand (J. Org. Chem. 2000, 65, 6223-6226) combined with ruthenium to enantioselectively hydrogenate α-keto esters.
