Our experience with 100 implantations of the RESTORE® lens

Purpose: To evaluate the possibility of accommodation after implantation a new pseadoaccommodative IOL AcrySof-RESTORE®.

Setting: Eye Microsurgery Complex named after Svjatoslav Fyodorov, St. Petersburg Branch. St. Petersburg, Russia.

Methods: There were two groups of patients. One group (n=100) received implantation of ordinary AcrySof IOL, another (n=100) – AcrySof RESTORE®-lens (Alcon Co). Patients underwent visual acuity testing for near and far vision.

Results: There were no differences in the far vision between the two groups (100% –0.5 and more). The near vision 0.5 and more in the first group have had 18% of patients, in the second group –100% of them. 86% of patients after AcrySof RESTORE®-lens implantation had near visual acuity 0.8 and more. None of the patients of the second group used eyeglasses for reading.

Conclusion: The new pseudoaccommodative difractive-rafractive IOL AcrySof RESTORE® provides good reading performance in 100% of patients after cataract surgery.
