Purpose: To discuss the new advances in cataract surgery.

Methods: In vitro and in vivo clinical research on impact of new technology.

Results: Technology and technique are critical in wound burn prevention. Vertical chop approach and ultrapulse power modulation were particularly preventative. Some new IOLs have impressive refractive potential. The Laser Light Adjustable IOL clinically is accurate to within±0.25d and can be precisely adjusted for other optical aberrations.

Conclusions: Only with careful research can we determine if new technology or techniques have any clinical advantages.
