Abstract

Takayasu arteritis typically involves the aorta, exspecially the aortic arch, and its branches, but there is usually no involvement of the cerebral vessels. For the first time we report about a case with a posterior encephalopathy syndrome in a 39-year-old female patient with a histologically proven Takayasu arteritis, who became symptomatic with the clinical picture of an Anton's syndrome shortly after cardiac surgery. No signs of a cerebral vasculitis were found.
