Zusammenfassung

Auch wenn viele Ärzte immer noch davor zurückschrecken, Altern als eine Krankheit zu betrachten, so bleibt doch festzuhalten: Biologisches Altern ist der wichtigste Risikofaktor für alle Erkrankungen, die in der westlichen Welt die Sterbestatistik anführen. Vor allem bei postmenopausalen Frauen beschleunigt der Hormonmangel zusätzlich diverse Alterungsprozesse. Allerdings ist dieser Verlauf durchaus nicht schicksalhaft. Durch Lebensstil und Ernährung sowie durch eine individualisierte Hormonersatztherapie ist eine effektive Prävention in vielen Fällen möglich ( Abb. [ 1 ]).
