Abstract

Summary

An analysis of the fibrinolytic properties of the pleural exsudate after pulmonary resection revealed that the exsudate contained an excess of an activator of plasminogen during the first 4 hours after completion of the operation. This activator was still present in appreciable amounts until about 20 hours after the resection. The activator possessed the thermostability of tissue activator and was probably released from freshly traumatized tissue.
