Summary

Soluble antigen-antibody complexes were infused in a group of non-immunized rabbits. Furthermore, antigen solutions were infused or injected into a group of rabbits, immunized with the corresponding antigen. In both groups a profound fall in the number of blood platelets was demonstrated. However, increased or decreased factor V activity was not seen in any of the rabbits; changes in the level of fibrinogen did not occur, and circulating fibrin monomers as a sign of thrombinemia could not be found.

The mechanism by which immunologieally induced thrombocytopenia can lead to diffuse intravascular coagulation is briefly discussed.
