Summary

Cutaneous manifestations can occur in nearly all rheumatic diseases. The appearance of skin manifestations is mostly more specific than associated rheumatic symptoms. The combined assessment of skin and rheumatic symptoms is often the key to the diagnosis of systemic inflammatory diseases. The focus of this review is the view of a rheumatologist on the skin in particular with respect of diagnostic key symptoms.
