The human face is among the most important facets of human existence. In the most immediate sense, it is not as life-sustaining as the heart or the central nervous system, but it is just as important.

It houses many of our special sensory organs that allow us to interact with the world outside. Through our constellation of facial expressions, we are able to communicate much of the essence of many of our social interactions. In the discernment of our own reflection, we consider many of the components self-image and well-being.

The upper face via the positioning of the forehead, the eyebrows, and the eyelids is a key transmitter of our system of nonverbal messaging and imparted emotion. The expressions displayed in the upper face in many ways make known our various intentions, our age, our emotional state, and even our gender. It is for these reasons the authors and I compiled this list of articles aimed at describing the underlying anatomy, the effects of aging, and the rejuvenation of this area of the human face. Herein you will find articles describing time-honored and new innovative perspectives on the hairline, the forehead, the eyebrow, and the upper eyelids. There are articles on surgical repositioning, the replacement of volume, and the neuromodulation of these anatomic features.

The authors are a diversely experienced panel of clinicians who represent an international perspective on this anatomic area. They have come together as decades-proven experienced surgeons and younger bright authors. Some of the authors are in private practice while some hold full-time academic appointments at prestigious centers of education. Together this group has compiled a fantastic collection of manuscripts that you will find enjoyable and informative. Enjoy!

Be well and best regards.
