Zusammenfassung
Übergewicht und Adipositas im Kindes- und Jugendalter sind auch in Deutschland ein
wachsendes Problem. Während die Prävalenz bei Schuleintritt stagniert, wurde in den
letzten 10 Jahren ein deutlicher Anstieg der Adipositas vor allem im Jugendalter beobachtet.
Dieses Problem stellt eine wachsende Belastung für das Gesundheitssystem und die Gesellschaft
dar. Um dieser Entwicklung zu begegnen wird eine Intensivierung von Präventionsaktivitäten
gefordert. Eine Analyse der umfangreichen internationalen Literatur zur Prävention
von Übergewicht/Adipositas im Kindes- und Jugendalter zeigt, dass verhaltens präventive
Maßnahmen alleine meist unwirksam sind und lediglich die Kombination von verhaltens-
und verhältnispräventiven Maßnahmen moderate Erfolge verspricht. Trotz guter Potenziale
hat Deutschland im internationalen Vergleich noch Nachholbedarf und sollte sich in
den kommenden Jahren - unter Einbeziehung der verantwortlichen politischen Institutionen,
Fachverbände und Wissenschaft - um eine konsequente, evidenzbasierte Neuausrichtung
der Präventionspolitik bemühen.
Summary
Overweight/obesity during childhood and adolescence is a growing health concern in
Germany. Although the prevalence of obesity at school entry levelled off over the
last decade, there is still an alarming increase in obesity rates at school age and
adolescence which may lead to considerable unfavourable consequences for the healthcare
system and society as a whole. A review of the international literature on prevention
of obesity in these age groups indicates that education programmes alone are more
or less ineffective, whereas concepts/programmes combining education and changes in
the environment promise moderate effects. Based on its excellent resources Germany
can make substantial progress by focussing its efforts on a better coordinated and
sustaining prevention policy which should involve all constructive stakeholders. In
addition, a more scientifically- based strategy including sustainability and regulatory
measures is warranted.
