Chronic, non-specific back pain – a “difficult” disease?

Although there is extensive knowledge about epidemiology, anatomy of pain, psychological and biosocial factors, detailed diagnostic-schemes and a multi-modal therapeutic concept (excluding homeopathy) the epidemiology of low back pain (LBP) has not decreased. Disease and patients are supposed to be “difficult”. More effort has to be done to improve the medical care of patients with LBP.

In the homeopathic literature cases of successfully treated patients with LBP are occasionally reported, as well as the “difficulties” in managing the patients and the disease.

In my presentation I would like to demonstrate the huge variation of LBP and the “difficulties” that might result thereof. This leads to the question, if and how homeopathy can be used successfully for the treatment of LBP.

I would like to introduce some case reports regarding the following questions:

• How can we successfully communicate with the patient?

• How can we build up a therapeutic strategy that can be accepted by the patient?

• How can we decide about the indication for a homeopathic treatment?

• What can be the aim of homeopathic treatment and how can we reach it?

• What kind of medical help does the patient additionally need?

In summary, it can be shown, that, regarding certain rules, patients with LBP can be treated successfully with homeopathy.
