Canine distemper is one of the most important infectious diseases in the world. It is endemic and highly contagious, usually leading to a degenerative neurological condition and in course to death. When infected the most frequent decision is euthanasia. This case report illustrates the treatment of 4 dogs that were abandoned and suffered distemper; one was adopted. The proposed treatment was a homeopathic remedy: mussismilia hispida (Verril 1902), a homeopathic remedy developed recently and which has not yet been made available to the materia medica. We chose to treat neurological sequelae distemper in these 4 dogs with mussismilia hispida because its indication was to have tropism CNS and neurodegenerative disease. “Pitoco” made great advances regarding its clinical picture of neurological sequelae. “Nightshade” was up after 6 months being paralyzed. “Luke” and “Lili”, dogs which had quadriplegics in the shelter, showed no signs of improvement due to the severity of their neurological state, but we decided to continue with the treatment, nevertheless, then the alternative is finally euthanasia. This shelter welcomes more than 400 dogs and 400 cats in dramatic conditions, lacking everything. Homeopathy can be a solution for the treatment of these animals, on the other hand, the inclusion of Pitoco provides, that dogs have a home and people to care for them, so that they may recover their vital force lastingly. The purpose is to find an alternative, that is efficient and less costly in order to improve the quality of life of these animals and to avoid euthanasia.
