Background
Although surgical techniques for the treatment of macular holes have improved dramatically over the last two decades, large macular holes are still difficult to close [1]. Macular holes refractory to repeated macular surgery including ILM peeling represent difficult cases with few surgical possibilites to remedy the situation [2]. Re-peeling of some epiretinal tissue or massaging of the macular hole rim may be performed, although its benefits are debated and these procedures may harm the residual photoreceptors [3].
