Clinical Analysis of Reconstruction of Opponent Pollicis with Extensor Index Digiti Translocation

Introduction: Based on the anatomical study and clinical trial of transposition of so many kinds of motor tendons for the reconstruction of thumb opposition, we suggested the extensor indicis proprius opponensplasty for thumb opposition dysfunction in cases where the flexor digitorum superficialis was unavailable or inappropriate.

Methodology and Material: From June 2012 to August 2013,18 patients with the disturbance of opponens pollicis were cured by reconstruction for the function of opponent pollicis with extensor indicis proprius translocation. All the patients were followed up for six to eight months.

Results: All patients had no complications and had the satisfactory clinical results, and the function of opponens pollicis was recovered well.

Conclusions: Reconstruction of opponent pollicis with extensor indicis proprius translocation had the satisfactory clinical results without affection the function of the index finger.
