Eine vaginale Streptokokken B-Besiedlung bei schwangeren Frauen kann während der Geburt auf das Neugeborene übertragen werden und zählt zu den häufigsten Ursachen einer Early onset Disease. Durch die aktuell empfohlene antibiotische Therapie kann die Inzidenz effektiv reduziert werden. Die Empfehlungen berücksichtigen jedoch nicht die Resistenz- und Nebenwirkungsrisiken, die mit dem vermehrten Gebrauch von Antibiotika einhergehen.

Im Rahmen einer Bachelorarbeit an der Fachhochschule Bern wurde deshalb die Frage untersucht, ob eine vaginale Knoblauchtherapie eine sinnvolle Alternative zur Antibiotikatherapie darstellen könnte.
