Significance

The solid-phase synthesis of deuterated arenes was described. Substituted anilines were converted into the immobilized triazenes through diazotization followed by the treatment with benzylamine resin. Thermal decomposition of the supported triazenes afforded the corresponding mono-deuterated and methoxy-d 3 arenes in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid-d (TFA-d)-THF-d 8 (method A), TFA-d-methanol-d 4 (method B), and TFA-methanol-d 4 (method C), respectively.
