Significance

The authors report the straightforward synthesis and the full characterization of the trifluoromethylating agent [(Ph₃P)₃Cu(CF₃)], which is the first N-heterocyclic carbene-free well-defined CF₃Cu(I) complex which successfully trifluoro-methylates various iodoarenes. Due to its air stability in solid state, this complex is exceptionally easy to handle.
