Sialorrhea has been reported as an adverse effect of antipsychotics, notably clozapine. The physical and psychosocial complications of sialorrhea can cause problems ranging from mild, inconvenient symptoms to problems with adherence, or even life-threatening conditions. We herein present a case of reversible sialorrhea that developed in a female patient with schizophrenia on high doses of risperidone. On a low dose, the patient's symptoms resolved. We conclude by proposing a potential mechanism for risperidone-induced sialorrhea (RIS) and further hypothesize that RIS is dose-related.
