Publication Date:
26 July 2010 (online)

Welcome to the new Journal of Knee Surgery! We have a new publisher (Thieme), a new Editor-in-Chief, three new Associate Editors (Andy Schmidt, Greg Fanelli, and Steven Harwin), and a new Editorial Board. As you can see, we have undergone a major overhaul in personnel. All of the leadership involved in this journal share one common trait: a passion for the evaluation and treatment of pathology involving the knee.

In addition to new people, we will feature a new format for the journal. We will attempt to cover all three major clinical disciplines involved in knee surgery: trauma, sports medicine, and adult reconstruction. Additionally, we will address clinically relevant basic science and research advances. Each edition of The Journal of Knee Surgery will be dedicated to one topic from one of the three disciplines listed above. We will have approximately three to five invited articles from international experts on the topic for that edition. The articles will be either review articles or technique-oriented manuscripts. The topic for this edition is compartment syndrome associated with tibial plateau fractures (trauma). Our next edition will feature posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (sports medicine). Future editions will feature an adult reconstruction topic and an evaluation of articular cartilage injuries. In addition to the featured topic for the edition, we will publish original articles from all of the major disciplines of knee surgery. As a result, there will be papers on trauma, sports medicine, and adult reconstruction in each issue of the journal.

In addition to the new people and the new format, we will have some additional changes. We will make every effort to streamline the publishing process for our authors, eliminating needless delays. Thieme has also offered free color to our authors in appropriate manuscripts. We wish to involve a broad spectrum of reviewers for our journal. If you are interested in serving as a reviewer, please do not hesitate to contact me through The Journal of Knee Surgery.

Again, welcome to the revamped Journal of Knee Surgery. I hope you share my passion for taking care of injuries to this marvelous joint. We will strive to make this a clinically relevant publication that includes outstanding technique papers from international experts. I believe you will find the journal to be a valuable addition to your orthopaedic reading. Please do not hesitate to contact me with suggestions for future editions.
