Significance

The authors report the first Pd-catalyzed construction of 2,3-diaryl 1,4-diketones via C-C bond formation of substituted α-chloro ketones and zinc ketone enolates. Under mild conditions, a number of different 1,4-diketones are obtained in high yields.
