Significance

Lathyranoic acid A was isolated in 2005 from the seeds of Euphorbia lathyris and is one of a family of diterpenoids that possess a syn-cyclopropane ring and a 2-methylene-1,3-alkoxide as key functional moieties. This is the first total synthesis of lathyranoic acid A and was completed in 20 steps and 1.4% overall yield from known compounds.
