Significance

N-Sulfinyl-based ligands are widely used in organic synthesis; these ligands bind to metals through either nitrogen or oxygen. In this report, the authors use N-sulfinyl-based ligands to bind through sulfur, as proven by X-ray crystal structure analysis. Because chirality is at the sulfur atom a strong chiral environment is present, as shown through the high enantioselectivities reported.
