Significance

TEMPO-functionalized SBA-15 (SBA-15-TEMPO) was treated with ionic liquid (IL) [BMIm]Br to give the IL-modified SBA-15-TEMPO (IL@SBA-15-TEMPO) where the IL was confined inside the mesopores of SBA-15 (eq. 1). IL@SBA-15-TEMPO (2) promoted the aerobic oxidation of various types of alcohols 3 to give the corresponding carbonyl compounds 4 in up to >99% yield (eq. 2, 24 examples).
