Significance

A series of hemifluorinated surfactants with a perfluorohexane fragment and a propyl end group has been synthesized via AIBN-initiated radical addition reactions. Surfactants 5a and 5b self-assemble into monodisperse spherical micelles of 6.0 and 5.5 nm diameters.
