Significance

2,5-Dihydrofurans have seen much interest from the chemical community due to their abundance as target molecules and their versatility as synthetic intermediates. The authors report a one-pot combined Rh(I)/Au(I) catalysis to afford 2,5-dihydrofurans from propargyloxiranes with poor to excellent diastereoselectivities. This method is shown to retain and transfer chirality with minimal loss of stereochemical information.
