Significance

(±)-Stemoamide is a member of the large stemona alkaloid family that share a common pyrrolo[1,2-a]azepine core. It was isolated in 1992 from Stemona tuberosa Lour, which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of respiratory diseases and tuberculosis. The synthesis is achieved here in an impressive 37% yield over eight steps.
