Significance

This report describes a chiral phosphine-free amido-iridium complex for asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones. Various aryl ketones are successfully hydrogenated in greater than 99% ee and very high conversion. The selectivities are comparable to or better than other chiral metal catalytic hydrogenation systems.
