Significance

Bryostatin 1 is a marine pyran ­isolated from B. neritina. The family has become popular synthetic targets due to their molecular complexity as well as their activity against a range of cancers and potential activity against Alzheimer’s disease. There have been six syntheses of members of the bryostatin family; however, this is the first synthesis of bryostatin 1 using a very convergent strategy with a longest linear sequence of 30 steps.
