Significance

Replacement of some C=C double bonds in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with isoelectronic B-N bonds has been emerged as a powerful strategy to create unique π-conjugated compounds. Herein, synthesis and characterization of a novel class of terthiophene-based azaborines (1a and 1b) are disclosed. Both compounds show deep-blue fluorescence with moderate quantum yields. Moreover, spectroscopic study for fluoride sensing with 1b is demonstrated.
