Significance

N-Heterocycles bearing methylthio substituents can be activated by CoBr2, enabling cross-coupling reactions as electrophiles with aryl or benzylzinc reagents. At the same time, the ­reaction conditions allow the generation of hetero-aryl-ZnSMe compounds that can be used as nucleophiles for subsequent cross-couplings.
