Significance
The synthesis of a variety of nitrogen-sulfur-containing heterocycles by [2+3] cycloaddition using the nitrile sulfide as the basic 1,3-dipole unit under microwave conditions is presented. The procedure described affords the desired products in shorter reaction times and, in some cases, higher yields compared to the conventional thermolysis of the 1,3,4-oxathiazol-2-ones. In addition, the work-up procedure requires only the removal of the excess dipolarophile and solvent under reduced pressure before purification of the products.
