Significance

The authors report on the copper-catalyzed asymmetric 1,2-addition of arylboro­nates to isatins employing chiral N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) as the supporting ligands. The authors also provide insight into the likely intermediates involved in the catalytic cycle.
