Significance

The authors report on the rhodium-catalyzed alkynylation of nitroalkenes. Previously, alkynylzinc reagents were reported to undergo conjugate addition to nitroalkenes in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of a chiral amino alcohol (M. Yamashita, K. Yamada, K. Tomioka Org. Lett. 2005, 7, 2369). Thus, this report represents a significant improvement in terms of atom economy and provides an efficient route to chiral homopropargyl amines.
