Significance

The authors report on the preparation of various propargylic or allenic organoalu­minum reagents via direct insertion of elemental aluminum into propargyl bromides in the presence of lead chloride catalyst under mild conditions. Addition reactions of the in situ generated organo­aluminum reagents were demonstrated to be ­generally high-yielding and highly selective in ­certain cases.
