Zusammenfassung
Nach etymologischen Kriterien darf der Terminus Prolaps ausschließlich für den nach ventral, d. h. gegen das Ligamentum longitudinale anterius gerichteten Vorfall der Zwischenwirbelscheibe verwendet werden. Folgerichtig sollte man den nach dorsal gerichteten Vorfall als Retrolaps bezeichnen und den Begriff mit dieser Bedeutung in die medizinische Fachsprache aufnehmen. Der allgemein geläufige Gebrauch von Wortpaaren wie Propulsion/Retropulsion oder Prognathie/Retrognathie ist ein zusätzliches Argument für die empfohlene Korrektur.
Abstract
Etymology teaches us to use the term prolapse exclusively for describing the part of the intervertebral disk that has slipped forwards, that is, towards the anterior longitudinal ligament. Consequently, the word retrolapse has to be introduced as the corresponding term in order to designate the posterior slipped disk. The common use of matching pairs like propulsion/retropulsion or prognathism/retrognathia is another justification for the recommended revision.
