Significance
A stereoselective olefination reaction using a modified Wittig concept is introduced. Semistabilized phosphonium ylides are reacted with N-sulfonyl imines instead of aldehydes. Their electron-withdrawing character can easily be tuned by changing the sulfonyl substituent. Stereoselectivities greater than 99% and good yields are reported.
