Significance

Both natural products are the ­parent members of the aspidoalbine family of ­alkaloids from the Asidosperma fendleri tree. A similar strategy using a cycloaddition cascade has been previously used by the same group for the synthesis of vindoline (H. Ishikawa et al. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2006, 128, 10596).
