Significance

The authors describe a titanium isopropoxide/trimethylsilyl chloride/magnesium mediated McMurry coupling of aryl aldehydes to biaryl olefins at nearly room temperature. The same reagent also mediates the imino pinacol coupling of aryl aldimines to 1,2-diamines.
