Significance

Known methods of decarboxylation of aromatic carboxylic acids use very high temperatures (170-200 ˚C) and high-boiling solvents like quinoline. This work describes a convenient, widely applicable procedure for silver(I)-catalyzed decarboxylation of various benzoic and heteroaromatic carboxylic acids under relatively mild conditions (DMSO, 120 ˚C).
