Significance

The Yang group has previously reported on the palladium(II)-catalyzed enantioselective oxidative cyclization of unsaturated anilides yielding indolines (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2006, 128, 3130). In the present work they report a new catalyst system capable of providing excellent enantio- and diastereoselectivity. Furthermore, they put forth a transition-state model to predict the absolute configuration of the products.
