Significance

The authors have developed a new procedure for the α-alkylation of aldehydes and ketones that involves the direct use of alcohols and enol acetates in the presence of either InI3, GaBr3 or FeBr3 as catalyst. The reaction is applicable to various types of alcohols and enol acetates.
