Significance
Amphidinolide X is a metabolite of laboratory-cultured dinoflagellates of the genus Amphidinium. The salient feature of this synthesis is the construction of the tetrahydrofuran ring bearing a quaternary center via a SmI2-mediated 5-exo-reductive cyclization (F → G → H).
