Significance

Silica-supported palladium catalyst 1 promoted the Sonogashira coupling of terminal alkynes 2 with aryl halides 3 or β-bromostyrenes 5 to give the corresponding internal alkynes 4 in 10-88% yield (eq.1, 25 examples) or enynes 6 in 51-87% yield (eq. 2, 5 examples).
